There are three reasons why a clumsy person should NOT use clipless pedals.
1. Bruised knee
2. Bruised bum
3. Bruised ego
My friend who told me that I'll only fall once on my bike and never do it again is a LIAR. Perhaps she meant to say I'll only fall once per year.
My right butt cheek has hurt all day and I can't cross my left leg over my right.
Le sigh.

Sorry to hear Aisy. Did you get your invite yet?
I'm not sure why you are surprised. Really.
if you re-read it, you'll note that i'm not surprised.
So I think Jim is suffering from your same illness. On Monday we went to a friends house for a BBQ, Jim and the boys rode their bikes and the girls and I drove with our food, chairs etc. A group of us were gathered outside on our friends driveway, just about to bless the food when Jim and the boys rode up.
Jim was being a bit of a smarty pants and rode right up to one of his YM, pretending to run him over. Well, he stopped his bike, but didn't unclip soon enough and he and his bike fell on top of my friends little girl who was sitting on a tricycle next to him!!!! She cried for a bit but had no permanent damage, he did bend the handle bars of the tricycle though.
All in all it was kind of funny, Jim spent the next little bit trying to make amends with the fallen munchkin. What was he thinking?!?!?!
I fell with my clipless pedals (and tore up the back of my calf) on a busy intersection in DC a few weeks ago. My bike-partner couldn't stop laughing at my humiliation; and then later admitted he'd done the same thing at an intersection a block over--into incoming traffic.
Awe, that sucketh.
If it makes you feel any better, EVERY time I go on a bike ride I pop a tire. Gas is cheaper then riding my bike currently.
La Hame.
Good luck in your RACE!
