one more reason...

to love my iPod.

I hate my earbuds for my beloved Vinny (aka 20GB photo iPod) because they don't stay in my ears. In my search for new earphones, I've discovered that it is likely faulty ears. I have yet to find new earbuds that stay in my ears... especially when I workout. As my search continues, I have gained a new appreciation for my originals.

It all started with laundry on Monday. I was pulling my socks out of the dryer when, in horror, I realized that I had washed and dried my earbuds. Okay, so it's a long story but I had put my iPod in to a sock when I went to Moab. Yeah, yeah, I'm weird. Anyway I had taken Vinny out but left behind the buds. I untangled the mess and plugged them in... and they worked! Now I have clean earbuds that still don't stay in my ears but I'm happy. Well, happy but still shopping around.

they hurt my ears, too. but, funny enough, when I wear headphones or earphones (depending on who you talk to) my ears hurt from being squished. where is the balance? IS there a balance? and how will I find them?

i don't have an ipod. i feel left out. i even like the little quote you can get on it. if i get an ipod and i get a quote on it it'll be:

"i very much like the hip hop" -ichiro

also, i like the ear buds with the little fuzzy casings, so they don't hurt your ears. maybe you could get some little tiny mice to knit some?

no ipod yet for me either. I did lend my cheap mp3 player to my best friend as she's going to NY this weekend, and doesn't have an ipod either. 5 hours on a bus with no music? fuggedaboutit.

Yep, the earbuds hurt. I seem to be OK with short periods of time like the gym but they hurt after a few hours like on a plane ride. And I agree with MF, the other kind hurt too from squishing.

I'm so glad you posted this, it reminded me that I only have a few days left to return my cell phone headset. That earpiece was even worse.

Do they fit anyone or do we just all have abnormally large or small ear openings?

they don't fit in my ears EITHER?!?!

who is steve jobs makign these little b*stards for? people with ENORMOUS ear cavaties, that's who.

seriously cool story about washing and drying them though. do they sound any better?

i wouldn't say they sound better, but they're "clean." i'm a moron. i do find that the majority of people have problems with them but one of my friends can wear hers just fine. it makes me kinda mad when i see her running in them!

eyun, i may have to check out those phillips. and ryan, i chickened out on what i put on the back of Vinny. Somehow talking to a guy over the phone made me wuss out so i just have my name :(

Well well well. I'm glad that I read this post because I have tried no less than 4 different kinds of ear buds/phones or whatever you want to call them. I use my ipod A LOT (several hours at work, an hour at the gym and sometimes an audiobook at night when I cant go to sleep) and I am really picky about sound and comfort.

The manufactures of the ones I went through are Sony, Apple x2, and Phillips. I prefer the ones that go actually in the ear canal mostly so it blocks out all other noise. (including the horrible pop music they play at my gym. No lie, I filed a complaint with the manager about too much Ashley Simpson being played)

Anyway, here are the greatest and most durable ear phones that I have settled on and the second best are here.

I CANNOT wait for the new full video ipod. The moment it comes out my 4G ipod is on ebay.

my brand new Creative Zen mini MP3 earbuds also suck. The cord is way to long and they always fall out of my ears and I would not dream of running with it, (I would not dream of running) anyway it usually falls out of my right ear first so I tought it might be my ear that was abnormal but it looks like everyone has somekind of problem with these things. I wonder if you can get and implant of somekind...

adopted bluth... do they actually stay in your ears when working out? did you have problems with the original buds staying in?

i bought these ones. they stay in better but still don't stay in always. it's so dang frustrating.

The Shure ones that I recommended NEVER come out (unless of course your on a treadmill and your arms hits the cord and your ipod goes flying) and the sound quality is the best I've ever heard.

AWESOME. I think it is worth the investment... thanks for the tip.

my ipod ones never stay in.... except the one time i dropped off a ledge on my snowboard and the ipod seemed to work its way out of what i thought was a closed pocket, fall down out of the bottom of my jacket, and as the ear buds caught in my ear, it was enough force to remain in my ears and simultaneously yank the cord out of the ipod as it fell. wow. i didn't realize till later what a selective feat that was. i was over come by the thought of trying to find my white ipod in the powder beneath the ledge i just dropped off of. while trying to remind myself of that i shouldn't get too attached to things ( and not to worry if i didn't find it)... i saw it sitting between my feet on top of my board.

why can't they stay in my ears any other time. they passed test once...

A bit off topic,..

The metal gods were smiling on Jesse Maggrah.
The 20-year-old Springbrook man was walking beside railway tracks just south of Red Deer on Sunday, Norwegian heavy metal band Gorgoroth cranked up on his portable CD player, when he was hit by a freight train.
Maggrah said he heard the blast of the train’s horn just before he was hit.
“I tried to jump out of the way — but, I guess, not in time,” he said from his bed at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday.
“It was just instant. I was just walking and then I was on the ground. I wasn’t sure what happened.
“Then I saw the train stopping up ahead. I thought, ‘Holy crap, dude, you just got hit by a train.’ ”
The glancing blow from the train travelling about 50 km/h threw Maggrah four to five metres from the tracks. Stunned, he moved his arms and legs to check for damage.
“I knew I was alive, so that was good.

......

Despite his discomfort, Maggrah retained his sense of humour when summing up his lucky break.
“Maybe the metal gods above were smiling on me and they didn’t want one of their true warriors to die on them. Otherwise, I’d be up there in the kingdom of steel.”

(As reported in the Red Deer Advocate. He is recovering from several broken ribs, one of which "is poking into his ribs."

aisy said...

a rib poking into his ribs? that's odd. what's more odd is that the metal head was walking close enough to the tracks to get hit. yeah for metal gods.

Sara said...

The story made it in our newspapers today and it sounds like he wasn't walking NEAR the tracks, but actually ON them.

The days of ill-fitting earbuds are just about over. I recently caught wind of a company that is preparing a massive world-wide campaign aimed at erasing the uncomfortable earbud blues. When I get more information, I'll let you all know.
