i love...

I love the Calgary Flames. I also loved the 80s (except for the junior high years). However, when you mix the Flames and the 80s you get this:

Can't say it doesn't bring a smile to my face but for all the wrong reasons.

This reminds me of the Super Bowl Shuffle. Very appropriate as we near the next super bowl, with the Chicago Bears again.

Funny bit of fact about the song, and a sad commentary on music from wikipedia...the song was actually nominated for a grammy in 1985. Lost to Prince's Kiss.

I hear ya though. The Portland Trailblazers in the early 90's did a rap named "Bust-a-bucket" that I still know all the words of by heart. I saw it on YouTube the other day and I had to have a conversation with my 13 year old self. (sorry, I've been doing a lot of Internal Family Systems so its been on my mind :-)

Listen, you can't touch a Flame when it's red-hot. It's a true story.

Don't mock the power of a hot song with hot guys and hot lip-synching. Especially hockey players. They'll give you a beat down.

I mean, do YOU want to tell Tim Hunter he looked goofy? I don't... not to mention the fact that he looked, well, red hot.

The mustache can sing and makes me smile.

That mustache made Lanny MacDonald an instantly recognizeable icon long after he left hockey. Old number 9 was one of the great ones, a great family guy and a great hockey player.

Aisy may not remember, but her little brother was in the same year as Lanny's oldest son, and once they were 18 he and Lanny would share designated driving duties if any of the boys had any beer partying at the MacDonald house.

mskaz will remember skipping junior high one afternoon with her brother so her father could take them to an opening of a MacDonald's where Lanny and Tim Hunter would be signing autographs. Everyone swarmed Lanny, and he signed the back of aher yellow top, while Tim and the old guy talked about cars and hockey.

And all of the kids piling into the diesel Suburban and heading down to Electric Ave the night of May 25th, I think, 1989, to whoop and howl after the Flames knocked off Montreal 4-2 to take the Stanley Cup.

Yup, lots of Flames memories.
